Common Problems Mice Cause

Common Problems Mice Cause

Mice and other rodents come looking for shelter In our homes during winters. There is no need to tell how annoying can mice and rats be. They eat all your food, chew up your electric wires, furniture and honestly, everything that is chewable.

Not because they nibble everything or that they have sharp poisonous fangs but because they can pose a serious risk to your health too. They carry severe diseases.  . This is the reason deterring mice in your home is so significant, and the sooner you can, the better.

While the normal house mouse isn't as risky to your wellbeing as a deer mouse, they carry serious diseases, for example, Hantavirus, salmonellosis, and listeria through their urine, droppings, and saliva.

Infections that mice carry

Mice and rats are reservoirs of some severe diseases and convey it to other creatures, for example, HPS, Leptospirosis, lymphocytic Choriomeningitis, plague, and typhus.

Hantavirus

Hantaviruses are a family of infections spread predominantly by rodents. Contamination with any hantavirus can create hantavirus disease in individuals.

Each hantavirus serotype has a particular host rat specie is spread to individuals through aerosolized infection that is shed in pee, dung, and saliva and less by biting from an infected host. The most significant hantavirus in the United States that can cause HPS is the Sin Nombre infection, spread by the deer mouse.

Bubonic Plague

Plague is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It spreads through Wild rodents — chipmunks, mice, squirrels as they carry the microorganisms. The insects that live around them feed on them and get infected in turn,  transmitting it to other animals they come in contact with, including people.

Salmonellosis

Salmonellosis in mice and rats is generally subclinical. When clinical signs are available, they include diarrhea, anorexia, weight reduction, conjunctivitis, variable morbidity and death rates, and in rats, porphyrin staining at the outer nares.

Leptospirosis

Leptospirosis (Weil's disease) is another disease that reach humans through mice and other rodents through the urine of infected host animals when consumed contaminated food or water.

Typhus

Murine typhus is another disease carried by rodents (rats, mice, mongoose) and spread to people by ticks, insects, mosquitos, and flies. It is caused by microscopic organisms called Rickettsia Typhi.

Problems mice cause to properties

Mice are flexible and they can fit through cleft, breaks, and openings as little as ¼ of an inch. This can make it extremely hard to make your property 100% mouse-proof.

Rats and mice cause serious damage to your properties through biting, urine and droppings. Mice will bite on pretty much anything that they see as chewable.

Mice can scare inhabitants, however they can also harm your property. They can bite through walls and plastic hosepipes, which can cause leakage. Their urine can harm floors and roofs.

And you cannot even think about the kind of damage that can do to your attic. They will destroy your whole insulation and you will not know until it gets serious. They burrow into your insulation by building nests for themselves and their offsprings.

Therefore, it is important to take it seriously. If you see one mouse in your house, there is most likely a whole mice infestation and you need to do something about it before it is too late.
